When we say the word innocence, we think of children right away. Children are innocent, at least most of them, the ones who have been raised in clean environments. To be innocent is to not have any guilt of blame, is to have the mind of a child just like God asks us to. The Scriptures mention:
"Truly I say to you, Whoever does not put himself under the kingdom of God like a little child, will not come into it at all." Luke 18:17
That means to be pure, to have all our thoughts and feelings without malice.
It also means to be dependant. It's when we try to walk by our own understanding and strength that we fail. We need God, just as a child needs the parents to survive, to make good decisions. How many times have I not asked my dad's opinion about something and then failed? How many other times have I asked him, and they avoided mistakes because of his wisdom?
I love this song in Portuguese called "Intimacy" it talks about being intimate with Jesus in a way that only best friends do, eating from each other's plates, wearing the same clothes. At one point it says "Jesus I want to wear your shirt and see how much bigger than me you are"
It's true, we are babies, He must look at us and find us cute in a silly way, and when we do anything for Him, is like our kids making drawings and macaroni necklaces for their parents.
I love my friend Jesus, my big counselor. I want to be humble enough to recognize I'm not capable of doing this life on my own and I need advice, help, a big push, I do. I'm just one of God's children.
