Day 4 - Leadership

For today’s post I felt I should write about leadership. We often think that to be a leader is just for those gifted ones who God has chosen to role as leaders of specific groups or situations. The truth is, all of us have the leadership gene in our blood. We are made His image and He is the best leader of all. 2 Samuel 22:35 says “He trains my hands for battle…(…)…You have given me your shield of victory, your help has made me great”. For me it is implied that with His help we can achieve victory, and it doesn’t matter our leadership style or personality. Of course some leaders were specifically chosen, Jesus Himself and Moses, for example. But in fact, all of us are leaders of ourselves, as we have to control our feelings and thoughts and direct our actions according to God’s whispers.
When God says “So be careful how you live” (Ephesians 5:15), He is coaching us to be successful in our earthly life. He is not telling us directly what we should or not do, but He is giving us the choice to lead our lives the way we perceive to be the most appropriate.
I believe and always heard that are two choices for Christians: to lead or to be led. Which one are we going to choose? Are we going to lead others into God’s way and allow God to lead us? Or are we going to do the very opposite?
At the end of the day God is the best leader of all. He is able to be supportive, when He confirms that we are doing the way we were supposed to; He can be a coach when He motivates and inspires us and bring us together as a team; He can sit back and delegate to see how we are going to fulfill a task; and He can be very direct when we just won’t listen to Him, so He steps in and make it His way.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could just have a manual on how to lead ourselves and lead others and know exactly what to do? Wait a minute, we do have it, it’s called Bible. Let me be a very direct leader here: stop whatever you are doing, and go read your Bible.
